Join the Center for New Jewish Culture and Ayin Press for a first-of-its-kind live performance featuring electronic music by Chaia Berman Peters of Kleztronica and spoken word by Jay Michaelson, author of The Secret that is not a Secret.
Over, with, beneath, and within Kleztronica’s innovative and often sick beats, Jay will declaim, shout, whisper, and otherwise perform the mystical, queer, kabbalistic, psychedelic passages from his new book of heretical tales. As an extremely added bonus, Ayin Press’s Eden Pearlstein, poet-performer-educator-mystic, will also perform.
About the Artists
Kleztronica is a collective of musicians who combine techno with Yiddish music to create a joyous rave-space infused with Yiddish culture. Founded by Chaia Berman Peters, Kleztronica is creating a new musical tradition that speaks to the technological and social cultures of the present while being rooted in the past.
Jay Michaelson is the author of ten books, most recently The Secret that is Not a Secret: Ten Heretical Tales, a finalist for the Saints & Sinners LGBTQ+ fiction prize. Jay is also a rabbi, journalist, and PhD whose last book, on the messianic heretic Jacob Frank, won the National Jewish Book Award for scholarship.
