Chanukah is ironic: a holiday of religious particularism now celebrated as a holiday of religious freedom, and a military victory by zealots now celebrated as Christmas Lite. In this lunch & learn, we’ll actually study some of the original source material of Chanukah from the Book of Maccabees, and reflect on the often-shocking particularism of the Maccabees, and on how we balance particularism and pluralism today.
